On January 18 my retirement was final. Since then I have been in school and trying to rebuild my life.

I retired with one month short of 18 years service. I’m 56 years old, so I had to take it with a penalty. Why?

On October 4, 2012, I had a heart attack from stress. I’d been under a doctor’s care since January . . . actually 4 doctor’s care . . . and all of them had just come to a joint consensus that all my problems were stress related, and they were going to take me out for an undetermined amount of time. Unfortunately, the heart attack beat them to it. I’m still recovering, and taking things slowly.

I supposed I could have taken disability retirement, or even filed OWCP and stuck out the last two years, but that would have meant the postal service breathing down my neck—and my doctor told me to stay stress free—surgery is not an option. So I made the only decision open to me—retire with a penalty, and get the heck away from the post office.

I had the best group of people as my employees. They all worked their hearts out for me, and I miss them, but at 56 I have a whole future ahead of me and a lot I can accomplish doing things that I love.

Until supervisors with hearts start getting promoted over those with hearts of stone, things will not get better. My heart goes out to all of you.

One of my peers put in for a position down south. Although the announcement was open Nationwide, it clearly stated that relocation benefits would not be paid. Has anyone heard of people negotiating for some sort relocation help. Not the full relocation benefit package that the USPS used to pay maybe 2K or 3K to pay for a Uhaul and such. Again I know he put in for the position knowing that relocation benefits would not be paid, but were just wondering.

Per Agenda Item #2 on page #6 of the April issue of The Postal Supervisor:

In reference to the issue of the USPS posting EAS Support positions externally after they have not been filled through internal postings. The USPS response shows that “the selecting official selects posting of area of consideration”. Would it not make sense for these jobs to be posted internally in a wider area of consideration before posting externally? Was this issue considered when consulting with USPS? NAPS only response to the membership in this article was to repeat what we already knew.

If you click on the names you can see on the right hand side of the page the last time each one signed on the website and you can see the last time they commented or responded to a member. All of you need to take a look at the last time your President (Louis) has answered a members question and keep an eye on how often he checks on the web to see what it going on. THE GUY HAS NEVER ANSWERED A MEMBERS QUESTION!!!! THE MAN HAS ZERO POST ON THE SITE!!!! Keep paying him, he’ll keep accepting it!!! What does he do? Compare the President to your other reps at headquarters. Come on Louis, DO SOMETHING!!!!
