NAPS Testimony Before Congress on Future of the U.S. Postal Service
Earlier this week, NAPS Executive Vice President Chuck Mulidore submitted testimony to the House Oversight and Accountability Subcommittee on Government Operations relating to the future of the U.S. Postal Service. Vice President Mulidore was specifically recognized for his input by Subcommittee Chairman Pete Sessions (R-TX) and Ranking Democrat Kweisi Mfume (D-MD). The committee leaders also acknowledged the legislative work performed by NAPS Director of Legislative and Political Affairs Bob Levi.
The June 24 hearing focused on postal stakeholder distress about the “Delivering for America” and their request to pause further implementation. In addition, several witnesses expressed concern about postal governance and the need to revise the composition of the Board of Governors. Although there was consensus that wholesale postal privatization was not supported, there were comments supportive of expansive private sector “partnerships” relating to mail processing, logistics and transportation. Also, there were questions raised about the size of the postal workforce.
At the conclusion of the hearing, Vice President Mulidore pledged to Chairman Sessions and Rep. Mfume that NAPS will continue to work with them as they work to strengthen the Postal Service.
